This is a personal project that was done for my Capstone class where we had to put together everything we had learned about design and brand it. I decided that I wanted to do my project as if I worked at Converse since that's my dream job. Converse has a style targeted for creative, skater and rebel individuals and also regular everyday people. I first started with creating a whole new logo. In the process I came up with 4 designs but didn't like the other 3, so I was left with the best one (first picture). In this logo I had everything that represented the regular Converse logo and I was going for a "future" look but something simple. So I came up to let the block shapes form a C to represent Converse and of course the star to keep their traditional symbol. Converse sells more than shoes but apparel, so I designed bags, a shoe, hats, labels, and shirts. Converse has many sides to it. They have playful (comic, custom and neon) and they have the serious side (original and special addition) when it comes to shoes, so I represented those sides with the shirts, labels and socks. For example with the shirts for the design of one of them I put the logo in a custom comic shape bubble instead of the regular circle. In this project I also made a poster design to target roller skaters because Converse is targeted for skateboarders and snow boarders, but not something that makes more logical sense (they specialize in sneakers).

July 8, 2013: HiRiz Water Labels

In this entry I decided to discuss the custom made water bottle labels I designed for the music group out of Atlanta, GA named HiRiz. I was contacted to help come up with party flyers for the group at last minute due to some issues with the person that were originally supposed to tackle the project. I was asked what else did I know how to do that could be a give away to the girls, so I mentioned that my water bottles were popular. I did some research on the group and saw they had a edgy style and had a bold look as well. The logo was supplied to me so I fed of that as well too. I decided to go with a black background, change their logo to hot pink to be focal point and decided to put their names on the bottles and the tour name they were on (#1Girl Tour). I didn't want it to be to busy but didn't want it just to be a black background, so I decided to duplicate the logo and incorporate it in the back ground. If I could change anything it would be the type under the logo because the type gets lost a little. But they loved the product and the manager wanted more prints to give away to others and to have a keepsake for the groups first official after party.

Week 9 June 4, 2012: Mood Cards

This Conceptual Thinking project shows 3 of 4 cards that had to be designed around 4 different words and show what major the designer is taking up (Graphic Design). We had to come up with sub words and a graphic that would fit the main word given to us (Anger, Love, Joy, and Fear). I enjoyed this project because it gave you room to think of a style that fits your personality. In each design, I tried to give off a tattoo and smooth feel. To keep the design from looking dark, I added white in each picture to give the eyes some time to rest while it moves across the design. This is the second time I have redone this design and to make this one different I have added stars and shadows to make the cards have a foreground and background adding depth.

Week 8 May 28, 2012: Visual Narrative- Information Graphic

In this visual narrative for Concept Design, we were instructed to concept and design a display that graphically describes for the viewer a complicated process, procedure, or set of directions. I decided to describe how to make a pair of custom skates. I tried to keep it simple while trying not to skip information or making it looked cluttered with information. I was going to make this look like It was broken down in 8 steps with 8 pictures but decided to use one big picture and describe how to assemble the skates. I started where it can be read in clock-wise rotation to make it seem like the steps need to be repeated. This set up is a little more spacious then what I had in mind, which is easy for the audience to read. I used colors that would attract viewers and to make it look somewhat fun.

Week 7 May 21, 2012: Coffee Tri Fold Brochure

This coffee brochure was re-designed in a way that I thought would get the attention of an older target audience or grab the attention of coffee drinkers. While attending the Art Institute of Charleston, my Graphic Symbolism class had a client who needed a logo and a re-design of their coffee brochure that would help raise more money for a Baptist School (Charleston Development Academy) and get more people to join their coffee club.

The original design looked very unprofessional and had no color. I decided to go with browns since that shouts out coffee in some peoples mind. For the fact that this is for the benefit of young kids, I put in a fun element of swirls to add movement and to represent steam of coffee. I added white text to the important information and to make that part of the brochure legible. Lastly, In order to represent that this is a Baptist School I added the color purple since Baptist churches are represented with a nice purple.

( Note : I DID NOT come up with the logo featured on this design. Logo used on brochure was made by Jae Dollason of The Art Instutute of Charleston by teachers choice for mock up. )

Week 6 May 14, 2012: Quote Poster

This is a poster design describing a quote by Mark Twain. In this design we had to describe the quote without using any picture graphics but describe with only type. I enjoyed this project even if I had to change a few things to make the poster come together. 2/3 of the way down I had a problem with making the design balanced. I was thinking instead of having the design where it say cat flow of the page like I did in the first design, I would center it and make the nine lives part extend a little upwards to make it seem like it wasn't two parts.

Week 5 May 7,2012: B.Smith Presents Logo

In this logo design the client wanted a logo that reflected his major in film. The design is a mimic of a wide screen shot with the light helping lead the viewer to the real focal point which is the "B Smith Presents". I chose a type face that gave off a feeling of flow and calmness as I think the type represented the client. I set up a few examples with different colors as they give off different feelings or moods that possibly could be changed depending how serious the film presentation is.
